A person of interest in a Putnam County gun theft is arrested in Kanawha County.
Jesse Burgess and his brother, David Burgess, are wanted for questioning in a rifle theft that happened Sept. 21 at Dunlap’s Gun and Pawn in Hurricane. On Wednesday, Charleston police arrested Jesse Burgess for allegedly stealing a Smith and Wesson 9MM from Cash For Pawn on Greenbrier Street in Charleston. Police said another person distracted the store clerk and Jesse Burgess grabbed the gun and took off. He told Eyewitness News he is not guilty.
Jesse Burgess is charged with petit larceny.
Police are still looking for his brother, David Burgess, in connection with the theft in Hurricane.

Charleston and Hurricane police are asking for help in locating two “persons of interest” they would like to question about a gun theft.
Jesse Wayne Burgess and David Edward Burgess are considered “persons of interest” in connection with the Sept. 21 theft of a rifle from Dunlap’s Gun & Pawn in Hurricane, according to a news release from the Charleston Police Department.
Anyone with information about the two individuals are asked to contact the Charleston Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 304-348-6480.
