With election day around the corner, for local races in West Virginia, coal is firing up the campaign trail.
Sunday, republican leaders made their case at a rally in Madison, Boone County.
Coal miners attending the rally said increased regulation on the industry are costing jobs and causing mines to shut down.
Some miners said they are undecided in statewide races. Both Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and his opponent Bill Maloney, in the governor's race, and Sen. Joe Manchin and republican John Raese, in the senate race all say they are strong supporters of the coal industry.
Donald Eubank, coal miner, came to the republican rally for to vet John Raese, after listening to Sen. Manchin earlier this month.
"I want to know some for information about these guys," Eubank said. "I want to know where they stand on coal."
