The name of the person hit and killed by a car along Interstate 77 Wednesday morning has been released. Stephen M. Staudt, 54, of Ohio was walking along the northbound lanes of I-77 near Sissonville about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when the the driver of a 2010 Nissan Versa tried to brake, but lost control and hit Staudt. Kanawha County deputies said there was heavy rain at the time of the crash. No charges have been filed in the incident, but it does remain under investigation. The man hit and killed on Interstate 77 near the Edens Fork exit Wednesday morning apparently had been told by police earlier that he wasn’t allowed to walk on the highway. After the man was warned Tuesday night, he went to a store off the exit and went to sleep. The store owners told him to leave this morning, and he walked back on to I-77 and was struck by a vehicle. The man, who police said was from Cincinnati, died at the scene. A pedestrian struck on Interstate 77 North near Sissonville has died, a Metro 911 dispatcher said. The accident occurred about 8:30 a.m. at mile mark 106. Stay tuned to Eyewitness News for further updates.
