The battle of the Kanawha County high school bands is over until they meet again for next year's Kanawha Valley Band and Majorette Festival. Here's a complete list of winners from Tuesday evening's competition at UC Stadium in Charleston: Grand champion 1st: Capital 2nd: George Washington 3rd: St. Albans General effect (Class AAA) 1st: George Washington 2nd: St. Albans 3rd: Capital 4th: Nitro General effect (Class AA) 1st: Sissonville 2nd: South Charleston 3rd: Riverside 4th: Herbert Hoover Miss Kanawha Majorette 1st: Taylor Freeland, GW 2nd: Haley Ryan, H. Hoover 3rd: Baily Turner, S. The annual showdown between the eight high school bands across the Kanawha Valley takes center stage at University of Charleston Stadium at Laidley Field Tuesday evening. This is the 66th year for the Kanawha Valley Band and Majorette Festival. Awards are presented for the best band in playing and marching, best drum corps, field commander, flag corps and twirler. The twirler to earn the title of Miss Kanawha Valley Majorette also will secure a college scholarship. The competition kicks off at 6:30 p.m. You can get tickets at the gate.
