A man charged with involuntary manslaughter pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning.
Kenneth Slater is accused of punching former state Alcohol and Beverage Control Administration Commissioner Robert Adkins in the face outside of a bar in South Charleston on St. Patrick's Day.
Following that one punch, police said, Adkins fell backward and hit his head. He then walked away and went home. Four days later, Adkins was taken to the hospital; a week after that he died.
Kanawha Circuit Judge Tod Kaufman set Slater's bond at $10,000 property, with the condition that if he posted that bond, he would remain on home confinement.
