Fayette County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a fight in which a man was struck multiple times with a steel bar.
The Fayette County 911 Center received a call about 9:15 p.m. Sunday that a fight was in progress beside U.S. 60 in the Lookout area, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. When deputies arrived, they found a man bleeding and stumbling around in the roadway.
The release said the injured man was identified as James Woodrow Settle III, 37, of Ansted. He was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center by HealthNet Ambulance Service, where he is in stable condition.
The sheriff’s office said a preliminary investigation indicates that Settle allegedly had been sending threatening text messages to an individual. Settle allegedly came to the person’s residence and began advancing toward the individual and was struck with the steel pipe, the release said.
The name of the person who struck Settle has not been released. No charges have been filed, and the incident remains under investigation. Once the sheriff’s office has a chance to speak with Settle, it will consult with the Fayette County prosecutor to determine if any charges would be filed.
