The widow of a Scioto County, Ohio, firefighter who died while trying to assist in a motor vehicle accident accepted an award in his honor.
Ashley Dunkin, the widow of Lt. Rocky Dunkin, accepted an honor Thursday at Ohio’s 32nd Annual Fire Service Hall of Fame ceremonies, according to a news release from the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of the State Fire Marshal.
Dunkin, a member of the Nile Township Fire Department, responded to the scene of a vehicle accident on U.S. 52 near Friendship July 1. During the incident, Dunkin assisted medical personnel with the crash victim. A few moments later, he was found unconscious, likely due to a coronary issue, at the scene by fellow firefighters.
He was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center but never regained consciousness. Dunkin was also a full-time firefighter with the City of New Boston.
