A Charleston man was arrested Thursday after police said he had child pornography on his computer and had sexual contact with male teens in his home.
Clay C. Counts, 50, of 1975 Longmeadow Drive was charged with possession of material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, first-degree sexual abuse and sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian, according to a news release from the Charleston Police Department.
Members of the Kanawha Bureau of Investigation arrested Counts after an investigation into the distribution of child pornography. The release said authorities learned that two 14 year-old children, who were unrelated to Counts, were staying in his home. Police said several images of child pornography were located on hard drives in Count’s home.
The release said Counts also provided a statement in which he admitted to touching the penis of one of the children on more than one occasion and to having one of the children touch his penis on more than one occasion.
Counts was arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court by Magistrate Joe Shelton. He is currently being held in South Central Regional Jail on a $50,000 surety bond.
The Kanawha Bureau of Investigation worked in conjunction with the Charleston Police Department, the West Virginia State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the FBI Cyber Crimes Task Force in obtaining the evidence required for prosecution in the case.
