The U.S. Secretary of Education is in West Virginia this week.
Arne Duncan visited the Elk Elementary Center in Charleston Thursday for a discussion on early learning. Later in the day, he was slated to be part of a panel discussion at Mount View High School in McDowell County focusing on building public-private education partnerships. McDowell County is the focus of such a partnership, with hopes of rescuing its troubled school system and a county plagued with poverty.
Duncan was planning to meet with students, teachers and leaders from Reconnecting McDowell, an unprecedented, long-term state and federal program seeking solutions to McDowell’s poorly performing schools, poverty and widespread drug and alcohol abuse.
