A lawyer who has sued the state on behalf of women who say they were sexually abused in West Virginia jails says he's filed 11 lawsuits against a Southern Regional Jail guard now behind bars.
Twenty-nine-year-old William Roy Wilson of Beckley was being held in an isolation cell at the Beaver jail on $75,000 bond Friday, charged with having sex with female inmates since May in exchange for cigarettes.
Jail Authority spokeswoman Ashley Bennett says an inmate brought allegations to the authority, and it did an internal investigation before giving the case to State Police investigators.
She couldn't comment on whether similar allegations have been raised against Wilson before, saying authority lawyers weren't available.
But attorney Mike Woelfel said he has nine pending cases against Wilson. Two others were settled.
State Police said a correctional officer at the Southern Regional Jail has been accused of exchanging cigarettes for sexual favors from three female inmates.
William Roy Wilson II, 39, of Beckley was charged Thursday with four counts of imposition of sexual acts of persons under supervision, according to a State Police news release.
Wilson was arraigned in Raleigh County Magistrate Court, where bond was set at $75,000. He is lodged in Southern Regional Jail.
