Fall is almost here, so for Charleston, that means it is time to get “chili.”
The capital city, for the second time in 45 years, will host the International Chili Society's World's Championship Chili Cookoff on Oct. 5-7, according to a news release from organizers of the event.
The three-day event will be held on Magic Island in conjunction with the Charleston Boulevard Rod Run and Doo Wop Car Show. The two events are expected to attract more than 50,000 people to Charleston.
Most of the 400 competitors and chili enthusiasts are from outside of West Virginia and will stay in the city for four days or more. The Chili Cookoff is expected to generate more than $1 million in economic impact for the area.
On Oct. 5, the Last Chance Cookoff will allow competitors, who have yet to qualify for the World's Championship, a one last-ditch opportunity to make the final cut.
