Hundreds of striking workers at the Constellium Aluminum Plant in Ravenswood are voting on a contract offer that could end the walkout that began on August 5.
Seven hundred members of the United Steelworkers Union are on strike at the aluminum rolling mill. Local union negotiators first decided not to put the company's most recent offer before the rank and file, but Saturday under pressure from the International Union, they put it out for a vote.
Eyewitness News stopped taping the actual voting process when union officials asked us to earlier on Wednesday.
The outcome of the vote will not be known until after 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, but voting has been heavy. Constellium is Jackson County's largest employer.
Health care costs were the major stumbling block when the workers voted down an offer in August.
