A Kanawha County man pleaded guilty Monday to negligent homicide in a crash that killed a man on the interstate last year.
Thomas Sturm entered the plea in Kanawha County Circuit Court. The victim's family did not want to speak at the hearing, but packed the courtroom wearing photos and T-shirts picturing the victim – Zachary Hudnall.
Prosecutors said Sturm was towing an unlit trailer at night on Interstate 64 in Cross Lanes traveling only 30 mph in a 70-mile per hour speed zone. Hudnall was killed when his car struck the trailer and went out of control.
Sturm faces up to one year in jail when sentenced next month.
