Hundreds of people in South Charleston were taking it to the ice Saturday afternoon, and all in support of the families of two fallen troopers.
The event took place at the Memorial Ice Arena to help out the families of Corporal Marshall Bailey and Trooper Eric Workman. Last month, Bailey and Workman were shot and killed during a traffic stop.
Since then, the entire law enforcement community and even strangers have rallied around their loved ones left behind doing whatever they can to make sure the families of the two fallen troopers have everything they need to make it through.
"The state of West Virginia and the people of West Virginia are great people. And they always come together in any time of need and it shows the support is there," said Sgt. Gary Martin of the West Virginia State Police.
Sponsors from all over donated towards the arena's silent auctions and raffles. Some people didn't even know about the event, while others came out to hit the ice specifically for that reason.
"I would hope that if something like that happened, that someone would help my kids out. And you know, that's the good part about it," said Fred Dunbar of Charleston.
Two men remembered for their courage and dignity as troopers and off duty. Reminding a community of the dangers law enforcement officers encounter each and every day.
"I know you can't replace your loved ones, but hopefully this will show the legacy they left behind," said Sgt. Martin.
"Be aware of what these guys go through. They're out there sacrificing their lives for you," said Assistant Director of the ice arena, Butch Buckley.
The event raised nearly $4,000 for the troopers' families.
