Some serious questions are being raised in southern West Virginia about student athletes being recruited to other high schools.
Matt Stanley, principal of Tolsia High School, says he's received dozens of complaints from the community over student athletes being recruited to other schools, including some in Kentucky.
Mike Smith, the head football coach at Tolsia, says schools are using kids to get where adults want to be and he says that is wrong.
Actively recruiting kids is strictly against scholastic rules in both West Virginia and Kentucky. Principal Stanley says the problem has gotten out of hand and he has been flooded with complaints from people in the community.
"They have expressed to me some strong feelings," says Stanley.
As of Wednesday evening, Eyewitness News hasn't been able to reach either athletic association for comment. However, we did speak to one woman whose daughter plays basketball for Tolsia. She confirmed her daughter has been approached numerous times by several schools.
Coach Smith says for now, the focus is on game day and no matter what happens, he can only control what happens at his own school.
"We only do what we can. Just keep on going," says Smith.
Principal Stanley says he has reached out to other school officials to hopefully bring the problem to an end.
