Emergency services vehicles from multiple counties are expected to participate in the 11th Annual Sept. 11 Parade of Lights Memorial Tribute in Raleigh County.
The event begins at 8 p.m. Tuesday with emergency vehicles lining up at the Food Lion store parking lot on state Route 16 in Sophia, according to a news release from organizers of the event. The procession travels from Robert C. Byrd Drive in Sophia and concludes with a ceremony of reflection and prayer at the YMCA Soccer Complex in Beckley.
The event is a “silent” tribute with the vehicles running emergency lights only to honor fallen law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical services and military personnel and other victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
In the past, hundreds of supporters waving flags have lined the route to show their support.
