A Sissonville man faces up to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday afternoon in Kanawha Circuit Court to second-degree sexual assault.
The victim was the 9-year-old daughter of woman who allowed the sometimes homeless pizza restaurant worker to stay in her home at the Pine Valley Trailer Park. Justin Hamrick, 23, will be sentenced in October.
The crime has a minimum sentence of 10 years, but Hamrick could receive up to 25 and be placed under court supervision for the rest of his life. He also will have to register as a sex offender.
Prosecutors agreed not to charge him as a repeat offender. He had a prior felony conviction. His lawyer is expected to request a mental evaluation to determine if it's likely he would be a repeat sex offender. He told the judge today he threw a blanket over the girl's head and then began fondling her.
