Couch potatoes have a chance to do what they have been putting on the back burner.
Hundreds of people including runners, walkers, children and volunteers will gather at Ritter Park in Huntington Sunday for the annual Fit Fest. This is the fourth year for the event, which is meant to help encourage a healthier community and lifestyle.
The day's events include a 5K run/walk, a 10K run, free dashes for the kids, a one-mile fun run and healthy exhibits and demonstrations.
There also will be activities for children featured at the Hoops Family Children's Hospital Fit Zone at the park.
Registration for all events will open at 1:30 p.m. The 5K and 10K race will kick off at 3:30 p.m., and the 5K run/walk and 10K will start at 4:15 p.m.
All proceeds from the event will go to the construction and maintenance of the Paul Ambrose Trail for Health (PATH) and honors the victims of Sept. 11.
PATH is a growing bicycle and pedestrian trail system providing free, healthy recreational opportunities for the city of Huntington and surrounding areas. PATH is named after Dr. Paul Ambrose, a promising young physician who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Ambrose was on Flight 77, the plane that crashed into the Pentagon.
