A man killed after falling from the Interstate 64 Bridge in Charleston was an active member of the U.S. Navy and was attempting to cross the interstate when he accidentally fell through a gap, city police said.
Marrion Phillips, 26, of Ripley was attempting to cross the interstate from the westbound to the eastbound lanes and accidentally fell through the 4-foot gap separating both bridges, Charleston police said. His body was found Saturday underneath the I-64 Bridge.
Phillips had just returned last month from an overseas deployment. He leaves behind a wife and two small children.
