DONATION SCAM Kanawha Sheriff's Office Warns About Donation Scam

Residents are being warned about a scam in which callers are asking for donations to support families of fallen officers.
Capt. Sean Crosier of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office said the callers are requesting donations in the form of cash or credit cards. On Friday, he said, at least two calls had been received, both Charleston area numbers. The number on the caller ID showed “private number.”
Crosier said the calls are part of a scam because no legitimate agency would be asking for a credit card number or cash.
