A memorial service was held Sunday in Charleston for one of two West Virginia State troopers shot and killed last week. During the service, Corporal Bailey was remembered and honored as a father, a devoted police officer, and a true hero. A funeral procession followed Bailey's service Sunday afternoon.
Dr. Justin Bailey, the slain trooper's brother, said he loved working in Clay County and being a state trooper. Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin called Bailey and Workman both heroes. Tomblin said Bailey put his own safety at risk for 17 years to help others.
Services for Trooper Eric Workman, who died of injuries he received in the shooting, will be held on Wednesday.
