People in Clay County came together Thursday night to grieve and begin to recover after one of their troopers was shot and killed, and another is left clinging to life. Cpl. Marshall Bailey's two small children were among the hundreds with heavy hearts who came together for a candlelight vigil at the Clay County courthouse. Wyatt, 4, and Lauren, 6, came dressed as "Junior Troopers" and carried state police teddy bears, as the community stood behind them. "A lot people in this county are hurting really badly right now," said Mike Pierson, Clay County Commissioner. "The whole town is torn apart," explained Donna Boggs of Clay. In a tight-knit community like Clay, everyone knows everyone, and everyone has a memory or a story about Cpl. Bailey. Bailey served his community for 17 years, and made the ultimate sacrifice. "Bailey's just one of us. He did his job well and you could always depend on him. If he told you something happened a certain way, it did," said Llyn Drake. They also gathered to pray for Trooper Eric Workman, who is still in critical condition. They say they're asking for a miracle. "We're a small county, 9,300 people now, but whenever tragedy strikes we come together," said Pierson. They sang, prayed, and clung to each other for support, as they start the difficult task or moving on from a tragedy that's touched them all. "It's just completely turned our town upside down. There's really no words to say how we feel and how bad we're going to miss him," says county probation officer Lucy Cruickshanks. "I hear everybody saying what they're going to take away from this is that life is precious and that it's short and it can happen to any of us at any time," said Drake. MORE NEWS FROM EYEWITNESS NEWS
