A plan to build a new apartment complex in downtown Charleston could be a win-win for employers and young professionals looking for affordable housing in the capital city.
What makes this proposed complex different is that it would be subsidized by employers in an effort to draw new, young hires. The proposed complex would be built where the old Holley Hotel once stood on Quarrier Street. Right now that property is a parking lot.
Some downtown business leaders say they would be interested in subsidizing the complex so they could better recruit young professionals.
The city will be seeking a grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, to help fund the project.
