Hurricane , Putnam County , West Virginia

A candlelight vigil is planned at 8 p.m. Sunday at Capital High School to remember a Hurricane woman slain in a murder-suicide, a family friend said Thursday.

Katherine Nicole Taylor, 34, of Hurricane was stabbed by her boyfriend, Christopher Wayne Kinder, 41, of Hurricane, about 11 p.m. Wednesday at the Kelley’s Cove subdivision in Hurricane, investigators said. Police said Kinder then shot himself.

There also was an 18-month-old child inside the house. That baby was not hurt and is now in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Investigators still are looking into a motive. Police said the woman sent a text message to a family member earlier in the day that indicated the couple had been arguing. The man also sent a text message to a family member and said, “The door is unlocked, and we are checking out.” Family members then notified police, and authorities went to the residence and discovered the bodies.
