A Portsmouth couple who serve as health care providers are accused of trafficking prescription drugs throughout the area, investigators said.
Daniel R. Williams, 49, and Robin M. Williams, 46, are charged with drug trafficking and possession, according to a news release from Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini. The two are employed at nursing homes in the Wheelersburg area.
About 6 p.m. Saturday, detectives from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Department, the Portsmouth Police Department and FBI agents issued a search warrant at the Williams' home in Porter Township. They also were assisted by officers of the New Boston Police Department.
The release said detectives and officers seized suspected liquid morphine, hydrocodone pills, oxycodone pills and numerous prescription medications that had been prescribed to about 30 patients of the Concord Health and Rehabilitation Center in Wheelersburg, Ohio. That center is where Daniel Williams is employed as a nurse, and Robin Williams had previously worked as a nurse’s assistant.
Detectives and officers also found drug paraphernalia, suspected marijuana, suspected synthetic marijuana, and three firearms inside the home, the release said. The sheriff said some of the liquid morphine seized had already been drawn into syringes and prepared for sale.
Both individuals remain in the Scioto County Jail. Daniel Williams is being held on a $12,500 bond, while Robin Williams is being held on a $22,500 bond.
The case will head to the grand jury and additional charges could be filed against the pair.
