Two people hurt in a gas well fire and explosion in Harrison County late last week have been released from the hospital.
Assistant Chief David Belcher of the Department of Environmental Protection's Office of Oil and Gas says he cannot comment further on their conditions.
The workers were hurt when a spark ignited methane gas several hundred feet underground Friday, triggering an hour-long fire on the floor of the natural gas drilling rig at an Antero Resources site near Sycamore.
The victims worked for the contractor, Hall Drilling of Ellenboro, at Antero's Cottrill No. 3 well.
Belcher said Colorado-based Antero could be granted permission to resume work soon.
So far, the DEP has not cited either Hall or Antero for any violations. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, meanwhile, has six months to investigate.
Authorities say three people have been injured in a gas well fire and explosion in Harrison County. The flames are out, and there is no danger to the public.
Sgt. Heather Mick of the Harrison County 911 Center said two victims were airlifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown after the blast about 4 a.m. Friday in the Sycamore area. A third was transported by ambulance.
Mick had no information about who the victims worked for or what their conditions were Friday morning, nor could she say which company owns the well involved.
The state Department of Environmental Protection has been notified. Mick said the fire triggered the explosion.
Five volunteer fire companies eventually doused the flames. The well was in a rural area and not near any homes.
