A Raleigh County man has been arrested on a third-degree sexual assault charge stemming from an alleged sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl, and authorities believe he may have contacted many other underage females through social media.
William Jennings Cooper, 28, of Sophia was arrested following the alleged incident that police say occurred Wednesday in Daniels, according to a news release from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department.
The relationship began through a social media contact, and the suspect may have had many other social media contacts with underage females between 13 and 15 years old, the release said.
The sheriff’s department is requesting that anyone with information about the incidents or has been a victim of sexual assault to contact the sheriff’s department at 304-255-9300. Deputy T.D. Pack is the investigating officer.
