The Ohio State Fire Marshal says the cause of a fire that killed two elderly women in Ohio remains undetermined.
The coroner’s office says Alice Jordan, 90, and Nellie Allard, 65, both of Rush, died in that house fire along Duck Run Road about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The Ohio State Fire Marshal says that fire started at or near the kitchen stove.
Investigators say they did not find any smoke alarms in that home, which was heavily damaged by the fire.
Two elderly women died in a house fire early Tuesday in Scioto County, the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office said.
The fire occurred about 12:30 a.m. at 3114 Duck Run Road in Rush and appeared to start in the rear of the home near the kitchen, the fire marshal’s office said. The home was heavily damaged in the blaze.
The names and ages of the victims have not been confirmed.
Fire investigators are returning to the scene to continue their investigation and to conduct additional interviews, the fire marshal’s office said. It is not known yet whether smoke detectors were in the residence, although investigators did not find any during their initial examination of the fire scene.
The investigation is being conducted by the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Rush Township Fire Department and the Scioto County Coronor’s Office. Multiple fire departments assisted in extinguishing the fire.
