The investigation continues into the murder of 37-year old John Allan Rogers, Jr. on Charleston's West Side.

Rogers' family is now desperate for their loved one's killer to come forward.

"I'm just wondering what animal could do something like that," said Rogers' uncle, Rudolph Lee.

Rogers was found shot in the head on the railroad tracks along Madison Street. Charleston detectives say that area is becoming a hot spot for crime. Crime they're trying to deter.

"When a hot spot comes up, we attack that area. We drive the criminal element out. We put people in jail," said Chief of Detectives, Lt. Steve Cooper.

But Rogers' killer remains on the loose and his family is now left wanting answers. "You know, I can't bring my nephew back. But whoever did that, they need to pay for it."

Lee says they're struggling to figure out why someone would have wanted to kill Rogers. They say he used to deal drugs, but after serving time he was finally getting his life back on track.

Police have yet to release why they think Rogers was shot. Lee says whatever the reason, it was no excuse to kill his nephew.

"If you kill a man, I mean he's just gone. He can't tell you he was sorry, and you can't go to him and say you were sorry," he said. "I'll never get to see him again, never get to hear him. There's no coming back from dead."

Lee says he's offering a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of Rogers' murderer.
