A man accused of killing his co-worker and then burying her dismembered body in his yard tried to kill himself in jail, South Central Regional Jail Acting Administrator Steven Crook said.
Charles March, 60, of Chesapeake tried to commit suicide about 7 a.m. Wednesday by jumping off the top tier of a cell block, Crook said. He said March jumped about 20 feet and suffered minor injuries, including to his elbow and ankles. March also may have a back injury.
The suspect was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Division and is expected to be OK, Crook said. A hospital spokeswoman said late Wednesday afternoon that she had no record of him being treated there.
March is accused of murdering Kathy Goble. She disappeared in 2010. Police found her dismembered remains buried in March's yard two years and one day after she was last seen.
March worked with Goble at Kelley's Men’s Shop in Charleston. He was indicted last month for murder and concealment of a deceased human body.
