One man was in critical condition Tuesday and at least two others were being treated for injuries following a crash on Interstate 77 in Charleston that involved a driver headed in the wrong direction.
Roncevert Randolph, 71, of Virginia Beach, Va., was in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Division, a hospital spokeswoman said. Caryen Adderly, 42, of Virginia Beach, Va., was treated in the emergency room of CAMC General and released, the hospital spokeswoman said.
The Virginia Beach residents were headed southbound in a Dodge Charger on Interstate 77 early Monday morning just past the Leon Sullivan exit when their vehicle was struck by a Ford Mustang that was headed in the wrong direction, said Lt. Shawn Williams of the Charleston Police Department.
Williams said the Mustang was driven by Stephanie Bias, 31, of Charleston. Bias was being evaluated for injuries at CAMC General, the hospital spokeswoman said.
No information was available about two juveniles who were passengers in the car with the Virginia Beach residents. That vehicle was driven by Adderly, Williams said.
All southbound lanes were closed while emergency crews worked to get the road cleaned up, but the lanes were reopened once the area was cleared.
