Huntington , Cabell County , West Virginia

Police say the man wanted in connection with a shooting that sent another man to the hospital Tuesday morning has surrendered to police.

Phillip Johnson, 27, surrendered in the 1200 block of 10th Avenue in Huntington around 12:30pm Tuesday. Officers have blocked 10th Avenue off for several blocks in that area.

Members of the media and the public are being kept about a block away from the scene while officers attempt to get more people to come out of a house in the area.

Stay tuned to Eyewitness News for the latest developments.

Residents in one part of Huntington got a rude awakening Tuesday morning after a shooting in a relatively quiet part of town.

Police tell us Kyle Michael Gibbs, 26, was shot around 8:00 a.m. near the Huntington YMCA. Workers there tell us children in the daycare facility were never in any danger.

Police after being shot several times, Gibbs made his way to the Speedway on 8th Street and 9th Avenue. He was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital for surgery; his injuries are considered non-life threatening.

HPD Chief Skip Holbrook says they have potentially identified a suspect in the shooting, but there were multiple people in the car at the time of the incident. He says, "The shooting is not specific to this location it appears that the parties involved were riding through the area in a car, got into an argument resulting in gunfire."

Huntington Police Lt. John Williams says they have found a black Dodge Charger which is believed to be involved in the incident. Police are looking for Phillip Johnson, 27, in connection with this incident. If you have any information on his whereabouts, call HPD at 304-696-4420 or 911.

Stay tuned to Eyewitness News for more on this developing story.
