"It's fun being here with friends. We were excited about Sheetz opening and it's something to do and it's good food," said Joey Puterbaugh of Scott Depot.

Joey Puterbaugh was the first person in line for the grand opening of Sheetz in Scott Depot. He arrived Wednesday night at 9:30 and waited over 12 hours before the doors opened at 11:00 a.m. Thursday.

"The first 50 people in line get a $100 gift card," said Puterbaugh.

Puterbaugh and his friends passed the time playing video games and watching movies.

"We're not a big city so we have to make our own fun sometimes and this is just a good example of that," said Shawn McGowan from Scott Depot.

But it's more than just a fun time. A new business means new money for the area too.

"We're growing, Putnam County is growing," said Suzanne Ball. Ball works for Hampton Inn but also represents the Putnam County Convention and Visitors Buruea.

"It's right by the interstate, that will bring people in." said Ball.

Sheetz is also taking advantage of some prime real estate. They're located right off the Scott Depot exit (4344 Teays Valley Road) and are hoping to attract motorists from all over the area.

"We like this area. we started with Barboursville was the first store in this area of West Virginia, moved to Huntington, then Milton and the Hurricane location, and now here. It's just a beautiful area down here and I feel we can really give back to the community," said District Manager Jim Williams.

This is the 40th Sheetz store in West Virginia and the company says it won't be the last.

"Any plans to expand to Charleston?"

"You shall see," said Williams, "We are looking at several sites down in that area."

The store in Scott Depot employs 35 people right now but that number could increase.

Also today, Sheetz awarded the Special Olympics with a $2500 check. They say that's just one of the charities they support in the community.
