HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Former Marshall University campus minister Father Robert Scott has died in New Jersey. He was 90 year old.
Scott offered comfort to the Marshall community after a plane crash in 1970 killed 75 football players, coaches and fans.
The Paulist Fathers says in a news release that Scott died Monday. Former Marshall Alumni Association president Jim Farley tells The Herald-Dispatch that Scott played an important role in the healing process after the plane crash.
Scott's niece, Mary Scott of West Orange, N.J., tells the newspaper that he was funny, spiritual, good counsel and easy to talk to.
She says the plane crash was "a dark time" for Scott. Services will be held Thursday at St. Joseph's Home for the Elderly in Totowa, N.J.
