West Virginia American Water has issued a boil water advisory for 50 customers on 5th Avenue and 22nd Street in Huntington.
Crews say a water main broke and they are working to repair it as quickly as possible. Customers might experience low water pressure, or a disruption in service, for approximately four to six hours until it is repaired.
Affected customers live on 5th Avenue, from 22nd Street to 24th Street; and 22nd Street, from 3rd Avenue to 7th Avenue.
During the repairs, and once the water is restored, customers need to boil their water for 24 hours until test results are complete. You should boil water used for cooking, drinking, cleaning, bathing and brushing teeth for at least one minute.
West Virginia American Water also says to not use home filtering systems in place of boiling or using bottled water because most home water filters will not provide adequate protection from micro-organisms.
