100 hundred degree weather sent powerless people looking for water, ice and air conditioning. Kanawha County officials are encouraging people without power to seek out a cooling station like this one in Clendenin this weekend.
People are also asked to check on their neighbors and family members who live by themselves to make sure they are OK. Get out of the heat if you can. The elderly, people with medical problems and children under four can be at risk in this heat.
Cutting Kanawha County's powerless to 7,000 by late afternoon meant grueling pole climbing in the heat for Appalchian power and contract crews. Areas still without power have extreme damage, many breaks, and can be difficult to reach with equipment. A hot Sunday is still ahead.
