The American Red Cross is providing critical help to thousands of people across West Virginia affected by recent storm related power outages. More help is on the way! The Red Cross has brought in over 80 volunteers and staff to supplement those already in West Virginia. Twenty-six Emergency Response vehicles (ERV) are headed to the state. Each ERV can be sent to anything from large disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina, to a house fire in a local neighborhood. The ERV is designed to carry approximately 1,000 prepared meals and liquid hydration. Meals are loaded into large containers that can accommodate hot or cold food. Currently, the Red Cross has five ARC managed shelters opened and 10 others for which the ARC is providing support.
