Nitro's new mayor has fired the city's longtime police chief.
Police Chief Jack Jordan said Mayor Dave Casebolt gave him a letter of termination Monday on what was Casebolt second day in office. Jordan had been Nitro police chief since December 2000.
Casebolt called the firing an administrative decision. He named Capt. Brian Oxley is acting as chief until the position can be filled.
Jordan says Casebolt did not provide him with a reason for his termination, but thinks someone offered Casebolt money to fire him. Casebolt said those allegations are "absolutely not true."
Jordan's wife and former Nitro parks director filed a lawsuit last month against Casebolt and others alleging that she resigned because of harassment on the job.
