John Robinson has been playing the lottery since it started 26 years ago.
He says he never won more than 40 dollars...until now.
Robinson and his wife Margaret surprised West Virginia Lottery workers when they walked into the building this morning to pick up their million bucks.
However, quick action by lottery staffers got a check into their hands by noon.
Using birthdays, Robinson matched five numbers for the May 16th Powerball drawing, earning one million dollars. He was on the road and didn't check the winning numbers for a couple of weeks. When he finally got around to it...he discovered his new fortune.
Robinson says he plans to pay off his house and debts and maybe retire earlier than originally planned. But he says he'll be back at work at the American Red Cross tomorrow.
West Virginia Lottery Director John Musgrave says Robinson is the state's fifth million dollar or more prize winner this year.
After taxes, Robinson takes home 685-thousand dollars...and 63 cents. Robinson bought his winning ticket at the DNJ Food Store on Dry Hill Road.
