Pocatalico , Kanawha County , West Virginia
A car was ripped to pieces along I-77 in Kanawha County Thursday afternoon, after crashing head on with a FedEx truck.
The woman driving the car with West Virginia plates was killed.
"For an unknown reason the northbound passenger car suddenly swerved, went through the median and hit a southbound tractor trailer head on," said Lt. Bryan Robbins from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.
There's still no explanation why the woman veered through the median.
But what we do know is the accident took its toll on people who witnessed the aftermath just north of the Tuppers Creek Exit.
"You could be doing exactly what you need to be doing, and someone else messes up and it just changes your life," said driver for Superior Carriers, Robert Goodwin.
Police say the FedEx driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The woman's car was demolished, and debris was scattered onto the highway and re-routed traffic for hours.
It's an accident that shows in the blink of an eye, just how fragile life is.
"Things happen so fast out here. Anybody that's ever driven anything knows that. They don't think about that. But it's a split second," said Goodwin.
Now a woman's life is gone. And another driver's could possibly be changed forever.
"I'm sure that this driver whatever happened to him, he's going to live with is for the rest of his life," said Goodwin.
The victim's name has not been released.
