Appalachian Rail Car Services, a company that operates in West Virginia and three other states laid off 20 employees on Thursday.
The company thrives on repairing rail road cars and makes a good portion of their profits from coal train companies.
Jay Phillips, Chief Operations Officer said tighter regulations on the coal industry has negatively impacted their business.
"I think over the past four years we have some pretty tight regulations on our coal mine industry," Phillips said. "It's affecting all of us in West Virginia."
