Both sides are ready to move ahead with the trial of sniper murder defendant Shawn Lester. He is charged in the 2003 rifle murders of Gary Carrier, Jeanie Patton and Okey Meadows at Kanawha County gas stations. Lester returned to court today. prosecutors and public defenders say they've agreed on a questionnaire to screen jurors in what may be the county's highest profile murder case in decades. Prosecutors contend Lester is linked to the victims by drugs and money and that the killings were drug-related not random. The sniper task force and later police investigations generated a huge amount of documents--some 150,000--and in all that paperwork, pictures and videos are more suspects that the defense is expected to use when the case goes to trial. Chief Public Defender George Castelle said: " But in this case there was an unusually large amount of documents. The task force that was assembled back in 2003 had over 100 investigators working full time and they put out a lot of documents." "Fair to say there were multiple suspects? <> "We have multiple suspects and we've studied them all. " The defense indicates they'll name some of those other suspects when the case goes to trial July 30th. MORE NEWS FROM EYEWITNESS NEWS
