Summer break is right around the corner and that means students are taking end of the year exams. This week students across West Virginia are taking the Westest. The standardized test is based on all subjects students learned throughout the year.
"I definitely take it seriously and I want to represent my school well," said Junior Winfield High School Student Stone Bellomy.
While these students at Winfield High School say the test is important to them, on social media it appears some kids are using twitter to cheat.
"Any kind of cell phone or electronic device is not allowed during the testing session," said Putnam County School Assistant Superintendent Cindy Daniel.
Assistant Superintendent Cindy Daniel says there was an incident where a student shared answers over twitter but that has been taken care of.
"With the increase in technology we see more and more students that have them [cell phones]," added Daniel, "I personally think there can be a lot of positives from students using cell phones. During testing, of course that can't happen."
Students are asked to not bring phones to the testing and they will face serious consequences if caught.
"Our teacher would periodically walk around and check and she was strict about it," said Junior Winfield High School Student Emily Cole.
"I just think it's unnecessary. You shouldn't have your phone out. I think it makes you look uneducated if you have to get on twitter and use social media like that," said Cole.
"It's ridiculous. It's not in good intentions," said Bellomy.
A social media platform intended to share harmless information, could be harming the future of some students.
