A mother who has seen her fair share of domestic violence in her family now says she was a victim and at the hands of her own son. "My son tried to kill me. I don't care what anyone says and I'm not trying to ease it, he tried to kill me," said Marcia Chandler. Those are painful words from a mother who says she simply can't believe what her son did to her. "I would love to know why my son hates me that much," she said. Marcia Chandler says her son, Talton Dewayne Pratt, recently lost his job and blamed her for it. She thinks that might be why he attacked her Wednesday night in Thomas Memorial Hospital's waiting room. Marcia says Pratt grabbed her head and bashed it against the wall several times. "What was going through my mind? He had a hold of me and he was actually trying to kill me," she said. Marcia was knocked unconscious and emergency workers came in to help. The criminal complaint says Pratt attacked them too by biting a worker's chest, another worker's thumb, and punched them several times. Domestic violence is nothing new to this family. Talton's sister, Starlena Pratt, was burned to death by her boyfriend a few years ago. Pratt was also arrested in 2009 for beating his former girlfriend. Domestic violence counselor, Nancy Blackshire says this type of violence is everywhere. "It's happening all over the nation and all over our communities. This is a really big problem right now," said Nancy Blackshire, from the Domestic Violence Counseling Center in Charleston. Now two days before Mother's Day, Marci Chandler says she can only wonder why her only son has so much hate in his heart. "I couldn't believe someone in this world who I gave birth to would hate me that much," said Chandler. Marcia claims she also filed a protective order against Pratt over a year ago because she was afraid of him. MORE NEWS FROM EYEWITNESS NEWS
