People around a west side neighborhood consider a suspect in a robbery a brazen bandit. He walked into a restaurant and seemed to know exactly where to go to get some cash. Now police are on the hunt and neighbors are watching their backs.
Around 11:30 Saturday night, a man walked into Gino's Pizza and Spaghetti on Charleston's west side, and he wasn't looking for a late night snack.
"There's a good chance that he was specifically targeting this area," said Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper.
Police say the suspect walked into the restaurant with his face covered with a bandana, armed with a gun, and demanded money from the safe. He's noticeably calm while he pointed a gun at the employee and strangely seemed to know where the money was located.
The crime isn't sitting well with people who live just feet away in a neighborhood they say has always been considered safe.
"Most of the time, I'm out working and my kids and wife are home by themselves. That's scary," said Charleston resident, Larry Taylor.
And since the robber walked away with the cash, neighbors are on guard. Hoping he doesn't feel the need to strike again.
"I usually keep my doors locked but now it's just going to make me even more around my kids to make sure they're safe," said resident, Jennette Railton.
Now a neighborhood is on alert while police try to capture a brazen bandit who held up a restaurant.
