Several areas in West Virginia and Ohio are cleaning up after deadly widespread floods hit the region early Saturday morning.
Emergency workers in Athens County, Ohio say 74-year-old Barbara Cantrell was swept away on Linscott Road in Ames Township after her and her husband tried to walk away from their flooded car late Friday night. Her body was found early Saturday morning along Linscott Creek.
Nine water rescues were reported in Gallia County, Ohio. The hardest hit areas are along Route 325 near Rio Grande and Cornmill Road.
Dispatchers also say Jackson County, Ohio had widespread damage.
Water rescues were also reported in Jackson County, WV. There are reports that a bar and a daycare in the town of Evans was flooded.
In Mason County high water inundated several homes in the Thomas Ridge area just north of Rollins and south of Letart. Also in the County, a vehicle became stuck after the driver tried to cross high water flowing across a bridge near Letart Road and Bethel Road.
West Virginia American Water has also issued a boil water advisory for customers on Jerry's Run Road and Buffalo Road in Mason County. Workers say the high water severed a water main.
WCHS-TV meteorologists say that over two inches of rain fell in parts of Jackson (OH), Gallia, Mason and Jackson (WV) in only several hours. This followed on the feels of heavy rain Friday morning in many of the same locations. Forecasters expect lingering lighter showers this morning to taper off by later this afternoon.
