Ethan Chic-Colbert wanted his 100,000 dollar bond cut to $10,000 while he awaits trial in the child neglect death of Jahlil Clements. Cops say a car hit the child by accident on a Charleston interstate while he tried to get help to save his mom from a roadside beating by Chic-Colbert.
The defendant's lawyer, Justin Collin, tried to convince the judge that the boy's mom, Lynitrah Woodson, started the violence in March.
Prosecutors argued Chic-Colbert has an alarming track record of violence against women and might kill Woodson if released.
Assistant Prosecutor Dan Holstein called Chic-Colbert as a suspect in the unsolved 2010 murder of Beverly Simley. Detectives say he dated the daughter of the woman shot to death outside the Birdhouse Lounge, but they only say his name came up in the investigation and won't call him a suspect.
The judge kept the bond at 100,000 dollars and that kept the defendant in jail.
