It's a show within a show. "42nd Street" tells the story of how a star is born.
Set in the 1930s, an ambitious producer names Julian Marsh (played by Isaac Jones) is trying to stage a new musical titled "Pretty Lady."
He casts a past-her-prime Prima Donna as his leading lady, but an accident sidelines her...and puts the spotlight on a young woman named Peggy Sawyer (played by Dayja Legg) who has to save the show.
With costumes rented from a New York company and a touring set providing the backdrops, "42nd Street" is Capital High School's most ambitious project since staging "The Phantom of the Opera" five years ago.
The cast, including Colleen Isaiah...who is portraying choreographer Andy Lee...says the trip back to the 1930s has been enhanced by the music of the show.
