The West Virginia Housing Development Fund Board has rejected efforts to allow county and city governments to veto controversial public housing projects.
The board declined a request to vote on re-instating the requirement for local approval, but will give local governments an extra 30 days to file complaints.
The controversy now revolves around a project in the Knowllwood Drive area that is opposed by the homeowners, the Kanawha County Planning Commission and the Kanawha County Commission.
The board did agree to let their staff assign a number value for county or city approval that would help local supported projects get state approval for federal tax credits.
