Almost a month after major flooding tore through Logan County, students are enjoying their delayed field trip!
Kindergarten and Pre-K students from Verdunville Elementary School had plans to come to the Clay Center a few days after their school was forced to close because of high flood waters. On March 15th, the school was supposed to dismiss early. Instead, students prepared to settle in for a long night.
“We got the call that there was no way that we could get off the hill. We needed to start preparing to possibly spend the night with the children at the school,” said Kindergarten Teacher Joyce Varney.
Varney says the kids were excited at first, but grew restless and worried toward the end of the day.
“My priority was to make sure those children were comfortable and not scared,” said Varney.
A few weeks has passed and now the children are excited to be kids and have fun learning!
"So were they excited and asking about this trip?”
“Oh yes! As soon as they came back to school we missed our field trip, when are we going to go?!” said Varney.
After taking seven days off from school to clean up the mess left behind and getting back on schedule, the kindergarten and pre-k kids were able to enjoy their field trip.
“They seemed to get right back into the swing of things. They're very resilient,” said Varney.
